Turtle Watch in May

Have ever observed a nesting sea turtle on a guided sea turtle walk? If yes, you observed the 1 in 1000 hatchlings that makes it to adulthood. If they make it to the age of sexual maturity, they will be 20-25 years old. If you should ever see a sea turtle on the beach at night, be very still and quiet and do not approach her. Flashlights can disturb a sea turtle enough that they will abort their nesting attempt and leave the beach.

La Perla Negra is located in Playa Negra, the natal beach for many returning female sea turtles who come back to the beach where they were born to lay their eggs. Females must come ashore to lay their eggs in the sand; therefore, all sea turtles begin their lives as tiny hatchlings on land. During the month of May observers can catch a glimpse of these fascinating and endangered reptiles as they nest and hatch here in Playa Negra across the street from Hotel La Perla Negra.
